She Broke Down in Tears… Then Came Back and Won the Golden Buzzer

In 2022, as 16-year-old Breanna Lee entered the Australia’s Got Talent stage, she was overcome with anxiety before she could truly start. She reportedly grew overwhelmed during the audition and started crying. Judge Kate Ritchie and host Ricki-Lee reportedly consoled her before she gave it another go.

Everything was altered by that second chance. The event was made even more poignant by Breanna’s moving rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colours,” which she even sang in her native tongue. The audience quickly shifted in her favor thanks to her boldness, story, and voice.

She advanced directly to the semi-finals after receiving a standing ovation and David Walliams’ Golden Buzzer for her performance. She was characterized as a 16-year-old Indigenous singer from Melbourne in the audition coverage. Her AGT run later contributed to her rising notoriety as a young Wemba Wemba performer.

It wasn’t simply the voice that made the audition memorable. It was the return. She appeared to have given in to at one moment, but then she transformed her panic into one of the season’s most poignant Golden Buzzer moments.
