From Streisand to Slash: The Audition Twist That Left Ireland’s Got Talent in Shock
Auditions for Ireland’s Got Talent are known for their surprises, but Elaine Cudden might have just delivered the most jarring musical “bait-and-switch” in the show’s history. Elaine, a Dublin native who described her act as “kitchen karaoke,” initially appeared on stage to perform a soft, classic rendition of Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were.” The judges settled in for a sentimental ballad, but within seconds, the piano melody was replaced by a roaring electric guitar riff.
In a split second, Elaine transformed from a ballad singer into a rock powerhouse, launching into a high-energy performance of Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle.” The sheer audacity of the shift left Louis Walsh in visible shock, while the audience erupted in cheers. While Louis joked that Elaine’s family might be “embarrassed,” he couldn’t deny the entertainment value of the moment. The “Diva Dolls,” who joined her for the act, added to the spectacle, eventually securing four “yeses” for their sheer ability to turn the auditorium into a rock concert.
The episode also featured a touching, if bittersweet, family story. Liberty Burns, an artist and face painter originally from Hungary, took the stage to perform Shakira’s “Whenever, Wherever.” Despite her infectious personality and bold entrance, the judges felt the song choice was wrong for her vocal range. In an awkward turn of events, Liberty’s mother, Tundi, auditioned immediately afterward with a Marilyn Monroe-inspired set. Unfortunately, neither was able to secure a spot in the next round, with the judges suggesting that while both were lovely, they weren’t quite ready for the competition. It was a stark reminder that even with a great entrance, the song choice is everything.
