Silence, Sign Language, and Soul! The Deaf Tones and Mundy Bring the House Down on IGT!

The Beauty of Two Worlds: The Deaf Tones Capture Hearts on Ireland’s Got Talent

Music is often defined by what we hear, but the Deaf Tones, a unique choir from Dublin, proved that it can also be felt, seen, and shared in ways that transcend sound. The group, whose members range in age from 13 to 39, features a mix of deaf and hard-of-hearing performers who use sign language to bring songs to life. By incorporating two hearing singers and a hearing conductor, the group aims to show how the deaf and hearing communities can blend seamlessly into one “world.”

Performing Ed Sheeran’s emotional ballad “Photograph,” the Deaf Tones delivered a routine that was both visually stunning and deeply moving. As the two vocalists sang, the rest of the choir used expressive sign language to narrate the lyrics, creating a powerful layer of storytelling that left the judges visibly emotional. Jason Byrne noted that the entertainment world is built on emotion, and the Deaf Tones allowed it to flow directly from the stage to the panel. Michelle Visage thanked the group for “sharing a bit of their world” with everyone watching, while Louis Walsh praised the performance’s honesty and beauty. The group’s unanimous “yeses” were capped off by a touching moment where the judges used sign language to deliver their verdict.

The energy shifted from sentimental to celebratory with a surprise performance by Irish music legend Mundy and Sharon Shannon. Bringing the spirit of a traditional Irish session to the stage, they performed the iconic “Galway Girl.” The upbeat routine, complete with fiddles and high-energy vocals, got the entire auditorium on their feet. While it wasn’t a standard audition, the performance served as a reminder of the rich musical heritage of Ireland and the power of music to bring people together in joy.
