Pure Magic and Powerhouse Ballads: Afia Alon and Linda Stun the Judges on IGT
The latest round of Ireland’s Got Talent proved that raw, unfiltered emotional delivery is the ultimate key to conquering the stage. From an 18-year-old completely reimagining a dark-pop anthem to a golden buzzer recipient solidifying her place as a true powerhouse diva, the auditorium was transfixed by sheer vocal genius.
The night began with Afia Alon, an 18-year-old singer and pianist who took to the stage with her mother cheering from the audience. With just her voice and a piano—completely stripped of any stage tricks—Afia delivered a breathtaking cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.” Her smoky tone, impeccable phrasing, and mature emotional control completely mesmerized the room. Michelle Visage didn’t hold back her praise, boldly declaring, “I prefer you to Lana Del Rey,” highlighting the performance’s pure, sentimental, and honest nature. Jason Byrne marvelled at how much raw emotion lived inside such a young performer, and the judges happily handed Afia a well-deserved, unanimous sweep of four “yeses.”
The vocal intensity reached its peak with the highly anticipated return of Louis Walsh’s Golden Buzzer act, Linda. Hailing from Cabra, Linda had previously opened up about struggling with low self-esteem, but the second she launched into Jennifer Rush’s classic power ballad “The Power of Love,” any lingering self-doubt evaporated. Hitting monumental high notes that earned her a thunderous standing ovation, Linda left the entire room covered in goosebumps. Michelle Visage praised her for a commanding and empowering performance, while Jason Byrne called her performance absolutely “flawless and deadly.” Louis Walsh beam with pride, appealing directly to the public to lift their phones and vote his golden girl straight into the grand final.
