When Mark McMullan walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage in 2019, he wasn’t just there to impress the judges — he was there for someone deeply personal. Before singing, Mark shared that his older brother had been living with locked-in syndrome for years, trapped inside his own body and only really able to hear. Mark explained that music had become a huge comfort for him, which instantly changed the feeling in the room.
For his audition, Mark chose “Bring Him Home” from Les Misérables, a song already packed with emotion. From the very first note, the theatre fell silent. His voice was pure, controlled, and filled with heartbreak and love, and you could feel that every lyric meant something real. As the performance built, audience members were visibly emotional, and by the final lines the room was completely locked in.
When he finished, the reaction was huge. He earned a standing ovation from much of the crowd and four yeses from the judges, with David Walliams telling him he had done his brother proud. It wasn’t just a strong vocal performance — it was one of those rare auditions where the story and the song came together in a way that hit everyone watching.
