Simon made faces, the audience laughed, and it seemed like everyone had already determined that this would be more “cute” than useful.
Jacqueline selected Cilla Black’s 1960s hit song “You’re My World,” a powerful, heartfelt ballad with little room for error. The atmosphere changed the moment she started singing. She immediately removed the smirks from faces with her rich, calm, and intensely emotional voice. The judges’ demeanor changed from courteously amused to truly startled in a few of lines, and the audience fell silent, simply listening.
