From Caregiving to Center Stage: Declan Colgan’s Heart-Melting Audition on IGT
Every so often, a performer walks onto the Ireland’s Got Talent stage and instantly wins over the crowd with their personality before they even hit a single note. Declan Colgan, a 20-year-old from Mullingar, is a social care assistant who spends his days assisting adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Declan spoke movingly about how he uses “music therapy” to brighten his patients’ days, proving that his compassion is just as deep as his talent.
Taking a seat at the piano, Declan delivered a soulful and polished cover of the INXS classic, “Never Tear Us Apart.” The judges were immediately struck by the “superstar” quality of his voice and his natural, unassuming stage presence. Michelle Visage praised him for having a special, unexplainable “something,” while Louis Walsh called him a “natural performer” with no fakes or gimmicks. With a clean sweep of four “yeses,” Declan Colgan proved that he has the attitude and the talent to go from hometown pubs to a major music career.
The episode also featured a high-energy performance from brothers Dan and Jonno. Describing themselves as the “Flanders of music” for being perhaps a bit “too nice,” the duo hadn’t performed together in two years before stepping onto the IGT stage. They shocked the judges by taking on A-ha’s notoriously difficult “Take On Me,” with Dan nailing the legendary high notes. Their brotherly bond and infectious energy earned them four “yeses” and a standing ovation, proving that some partnerships are simply meant to be.
