Brave or Crazy? Jim Elliot Roasts the IGT Judges to Their Faces and Lives to Tell the Tale!

Roasted to Perfection: Comedian Jim Elliot Bravely Takes on the IGT Judges

Comedy is always a gamble on the Got Talent stage, but American-born, Dublin-based comedian Jim Elliot decided to double down on the risk. Instead of a traditional stand-up routine, Jim informed the Ireland’s Got Talent judges that he was there to perform a “comedy roast.” A roast, as he explained, is where the comedian picks a target and makes jokes that are “a little bit mean,” and Jim had all four judges directly in his sights.

The routine was a sharp-witted tour of the panel’s careers and quirks. He teased Denise Van Outen about the “downhill” trajectory of her career and her choice of “fishing net” attire. He hit home with Jason Byrne, comparing the fellow comic to a “hyperactive four-year-old on Red Bull.” Even the formidable Michelle Visage wasn’t safe, as Jim joked about her “riding coattails” and standing on RuPaul’s shoulders. Finally, he saved his most biting material for Louis Walsh, roasting his legendary boyband management history and even blaming him for Brexit.

The reaction was a surprising display of good sportsmanship. Michelle Visage, a self-proclaimed fan of insult comedy, praised Jim for his brilliance, noting that when done right, it’s one of the hardest forms of comedy to master. Louis Walsh, despite being called a “moron” puppet, found the act genuinely funny. While Denise Van Outen found it a bit too “rehearsed” and opted for a “no,” the other three judges were all “yeses.” Jim Elliot proved that if you’re going to be mean, you have to be clever—and he earned his spot in the next round by being both.
