Simon Mocked the “Cat Voice”… Then This Contestant Sang and Left the Whole Room in Shock

Nobody was prepared for Greg Pritchard’s arrival on the Britain’s Got Talent stage. Although he appeared composed and courteous, Simon Cowell couldn’t help but make fun of his abnormally high speaking voice as soon as he opened his lips to speak, likening it to “a dog meowing.” The audience seemed to have already determined that this audition would be a comedy.

The music then began.

Greg’s magnificent male soprano voice abruptly altered the atmosphere in the room as he began a classical aria. People had just laughed at the same high tone, but now it sounded extraordinary—controlled, clear, and eerily lovely. When it became clear that this was not a novelty act, Simon’s attitude quickly changed, and the audience moved from bewildered smiles to startled quiet.

The contrast was what made the occasion so memorable. His singing voice sounded almost unreal, like something from an opera theater or choir loft, but his speaking voice had made many laugh. His tone was later compared to that of a Vienna choirboy by internet viewers, who called it “strange and amazing at the same time.” Not only did Greg sing beautifully, but he entirely changed the audience’s perception.

He entered the stage as the person that everyone was prepared to make fun of.
He left as the competitor who, with one remarkable performance, transformed mockery into awe.
