The Ireland’s Got Talent stage became a masterclass in variety this week as two very different performers redefined what it means to be an “MC.” From the hilarious, character-driven rap of a Thurles local to the atmospheric loop-station artistry of a Limerick beatboxer, the judges were treated to a night of high energy and unexpected skill.
The show kicked off with MC Decent, a 25-year-old from Thurles, Tipperary. Dressed in a “best of ensembles” (with socks tucked in), MC Decent immediately charmed the panel with his backstory, admitting he lives in a caravan in his mother’s back garden. He described himself as a “triple threat” (though he claimed to do four things) and delivered a customized rap that name-checked the judges while paying homage to Eminem’s “Without Me.” Louis Walsh predicted the catchy routine could be a “hit record,” while Michelle Visage admitted she was “in love” with his unique charisma. With four enthusiastic “yeses,” MC Decent proved that personality is just as important as flow.
Following the comedy was a more technical display from MC Nutton, a performer originally from Belgium but living in Limerick. Despite claiming he had only been beatboxing for two months, MC Nutton delivered a polished performance using a loop station to layer sounds, creating a full musical backing for a rap about a heart-breaking ex-girlfriend. Michelle Visage praised his musicality, while Jason Byrne marveled at the complexity of the act. The judges were unanimous in their praise for his creativity, with Denise Van Outen noting that they had never seen an act quite like it on the show. MC Nutton secured another clean sweep of “yeses,” proving that the “MC” title can cover everything from comedy to high-tech artistry.
